Intelligent and resource-efficient production technologies
“Intelligent and resource efficient production technologies” (EffTech) is the first research program of Forestcluster Ltd. The program provides new research based solutions to improve resource efficiency and to accelerate development of new fiber based products and process concepts. The five year program started in June 2008. The program budget totals €40 million.
Brochure (EffTech, EffNet and EffFibre)
Objectives
The goal is to develop radically new production systems that make the best use of resources and are energy-efficient so as to reduce capital intensiveness and improve the entire cluster's efficiency, flexibility and sustainability.
Focus areas
-
Ensure raw material availability in a sustainable way and improve the profitability of forestry.
- Utilization of modeling and simulation in order to be able to increase the speed of the development of new process concepts.
- Development of new resource efficient paper production processes that are profitable, sustainable and enabling a range of new products
Projects
Program consists of a joint research program which is open for all partners and industrial consortium projects. The program portfolio for the first two years includes ten research projects divided into three work packages and three consortium projects.
- WP1 - Raw materials and their availability(Jari Hynynen, Metla)
- WP2 - Modelling and measurements(Risto Ritala, TUT)
- WP3 - Processes and processing(Erkki Hellen, VTT)
- WP4 - Next generation mechanical defibration process - NextGen (Jorma Latva-Kokko)
- Industrial consortium projects
